Are you a Montessori teacher looking for distance learning weekly themes this summer? Here are my top ten summer themes that are perfect for distance programs!
- Going to the Beach - I know, you've done this one before...but this year families may not be able to actually go to the beach and there are so many free resources available for this theme.
- Fireworks - Think colors, Fourth of July, picnics, day vs. night - lot's of possibilities!
- Author Studies - This can be a post all on it's own, but keep author studies in mind for your summer distance program. Some of my favorite authors for summer reading themes include:
- Denise Fleming
- Eric Carle
- Kevin Henkes
- Lois Ehlert
- Barbara Cooney
- Leo Lionni
- Teddy Bears - Children will love to show you their favorite stuffed animal companions each day during virtual circle times. Finish out the theme by having a virtual teddy bear picnic with your students!
- Watermelon - This is a fun, colorful theme that is perfect for summer. Try counting watermelon seeds and learning the life cycle of a watermelon.
- Lemonade - There are so many fun things you can do with this theme. Find your favorite lemonade recipe to share with your students.
- Camping/S'mores - Your students will love learning all of the things you would need to go camping, and who doesn't love a s'more? S'mores can be made easily indoors and there are many substitute ingredients available for children with food allergies.
- Transportation - Ok, this one doesn't scream SUMMER, but you can makes sure you send families home with plenty of ideas for transportation themed outdoor play. How about setting up an outdoor "car wash" for toy vehicles?
- Ice Cream - Ice cream is fun for counting and learning colors. How about trying to make home-made ice cream and learn some science in the process?
- Bubbles - This is my absolute favorite summer theme. There are so many kid-safe bubble recipes available, and you can wow your students with fun bubble projects during virtual circle times. Give this one a try!
Have fun this summer with your distance learning programs!
